Creating a Button Message

Button roles live on a message Zira sent. You start by creating (or picking) that message, then build the buttons on the canvas below it.

Step 1: create the message#

The easiest path is the Embed Builder:

1. Open the Embed Builder tab.
2. Design your message, content, embed, or both.
3. Under Wire it up, choose Use for button roles.
4. Send. Zira posts the message and drops you straight into the Button Roles builder with that message selected.

Step 2: add buttons#

On the Buttons card, click Add button. Each new button starts with one Normal (add) action. The list spells out what every button does (its actions, requirements, cooldown, and group), and the Preview card above shows the message exactly as Discord will render it. Click any button in the list to open its editor on the right, where you set:

• Label and Emoji (a button needs at least one of the two).
• Color (premium): grey, blurple, green, or red.
• Its action chain, group, requirements, and cooldown (covered on the next pages).

Step 3: order them#

Buttons pack 5 per row, exactly how Discord lays them out. Drag a button up or down in the list to change its position; the rows update to match. A message can hold up to 25 buttons (5 rows of 5).

Step 4: save#

Nothing goes live until you press Save. Zira applies every change in one go and repaints the message so what members see always matches what you built. The save bar shows when you have unsaved changes and confirms once it lands.

Permissions Zira needs#

• Send Messages and Embed Links in the channel (to post the message).
• Zira's role must sit above every role your buttons grant, see Permissions.
• Manage Messages only if you use the migration tool's "clear reactions" or "delete original" options.

Starting From a Template#

Don't want to build from scratch? On the dashboard's Button Roles page, Start from a template stages a ready-made menu: Pronouns, Name colors, Region, Notification pings, or a one-button Verification gate.

Applying a template creates any roles it needs (existing roles with the same name are reused, never duplicated) and fills the canvas. Nothing is posted to Discord until you press Save, so you can rename, recolor, and rearrange first.

Removing a menu#

Pick the menu in the Message switcher at the top of the Button Roles page, then choose Delete menu. That removes the menu and every button, action, and condition on it. It cannot be undone.

Zira leaves the Discord message itself in place, in case the text or embed is something you wrote and still want. Delete that message in Discord yourself if you no longer need it. Anyone who clicks a button on a removed menu is told the button is no longer available, so nothing is left half working.

If the channel was deleted#

Deleting a channel does not delete the menus that were in it, on purpose: your buttons, actions, and conditions are usually the expensive part to rebuild, so Zira keeps them safe rather than throwing them away with the channel.

A menu whose channel is gone is marked with a warning in the Message switcher, and the page explains the two ways forward:

• Rebuild in another channel uses Clone to copy the menu and all of its buttons into a channel that still exists. This is what you want if the channel was deleted by mistake or the menu is moving. New and recently saved menus also recover their text and embeds. Some older menus predate message-body recovery; those get a plain replacement message with every button intact, and you can edit the replacement text afterward.
• Delete this menu removes it for good if you no longer need it.

Saving changes to a menu whose channel is gone will not work, because there is no longer a message for Zira to update. Rebuild it in a live channel first.
