Troubleshooting

Message not found or deleted

What to do when Zira says a message was deleted, cannot be found, or was not sent by her.

"The message was deleted in Discord"#

Your settings saved, but the Discord message they belong to no longer exists, so there was nothing to update. Someone deleted the message (or the whole channel) in Discord.

Fix: create a fresh message for the feature. For button roles, open the dashboard's Button Roles page and post a new message or attach a different one; for reaction roles, set a new target with /channel and /message set. Your role setup is still saved and moves to the new message.

"Message not found in the active channel"#

The message ID you gave does not exist in the channel Zira is pointed at. Two usual causes:

  • The message is in a different channel than the one you set with /channel. Set the right channel first, then the message.
  • The ID was copied wrong. Right-click the message, then Copy Message ID (you need Developer Mode enabled under Discord Settings, Advanced).

"That message wasn't sent by Zira"#

Buttons and select menus can only be attached to messages Zira herself sent. This is a Discord rule: a bot can only edit its own messages.

Fix: post the message through Zira instead. On the dashboard's Button Roles page, use the message creator or the Embed Builder, or paste a link to any existing Zira-sent message. For an announcement written by a person, copy the text into the Embed Builder and let Zira send it.

"I can't edit that message as it wasn't sent by me"#

Same rule as above, seen from a command. Point Zira at one of her own messages, or have her send a new one.
