Role is above my highest role

Fix the "above my highest role" error: move Zira up the role list so she can hand the role out.

The error#

I can't use this role because it is above my highest role in the role hierarchy.

or, on the dashboard:

That role is above Zira's highest role, so Zira can't give it out.

Why it happens#

Discord only lets a bot manage roles that sit below the bot's own highest role in your server's role list. This is a Discord rule, not a Zira setting: no bot can hand out a role listed above its own.

The fix#

  1. Open Server Settings, then Roles.
  2. Find the Zira role (it was created automatically when Zira was invited).
  3. Drag the Zira role above every role you want Zira to hand out.
  4. Save, then try again. No restart or re-setup needed.
Tip

Putting Zira's role near the top of the list, just under your staff roles, avoids this error for every role you add later.

Still not working?#

  • If Zira has no role at all in your server, this is a different problem: see Zira has no role.
  • If the role is managed by Discord or another bot (booster roles, integration roles), nobody can hand it out manually, including Zira. Pick a regular role instead.
